Welcome to the web site of
Frank Gaffney. Here you can find examples of his art.
Frank has been interested in art all his life and always received encouragement from family and art teachers when growing up in Northern Idaho. After high school, he came to Seattle to study Advertising and Design at Cornish School of Allied Arts. Frank also took courses at the University of Washington in Portrait Sculpture and Graphic Design, studied portraiture with Leslie B. DeMille at the Scottsdale Artist’s School and studied painting under William F. Reese. He finds inspiration from many artists, the old masters and contemporaries alike. His favorites are always changing as he grows and changes as an artist.
Frank had his first solo exhibition shortly after graduation from Cornish, then began working in the graphic arts field as a corporate designer and illustrator. During this period he painted numerous portraits and other fine art commissions, operating a gallery and studio part-time with a fellow artist. While Frank’s first love is portaiture, his extensive boating experience in the waters of Washington state and British Columbia, Canada, has inspired many marine paintings. Recent works also depict new experiences sailing in Croatia and the Caribbean Islands.
Frank is a member and past president of The Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters, the oldest fraternal society of professional artists in America. He is also a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists.
Frank’s work has been shown at the Coos Art Museum’s annual Maritime Art Exhibition in Coos Bay, Oregon, at the Eastside Association of Fine Arts Annual Exhibition in Redmond, WA. and The West Coast Paper Art Exhibition at the Kirsten Gallery, Seattle, WA. In recognition of his talent and expertise, he was later invited to jury the Coos Art Museum exhibition.
Frank’s lifelong devotion to his art has led him to paint both conventional and modernistic landscapes, marine art, still lifes, figures and portraits.
